The Palio horse race happens twice yearly on July 2 and August 16. Book accommodation months in advance. The piazza is free but arrives early for good spots.
Can I drive in Siena?
The historic center is largely car-free (ZTL zone). Park outside the walls and walk or use escalators. Many hotels provide ZTL permits for luggage drop-off.
